By John le Carré
First edition, first impression (Hodder & Stoughton, 1995). Signed and inscribed by the author to the title page with his real name (David Cornwell). Very rare signed in this way. One of a smaller print run due to the author’s dislike of the dust jacket.
Publisher’s original black cloth with gilt lettering to spine map endpapers and ribbon marker. Slightest hint of a spine slant with some cracking to half-title hinge, but still a near fine book or better, with boards and contents free from marks or inscriptions. The original and unclipped dust jacket is in fine condition with just very trivial traces of wear to spine head. A superb copy bearing a very rare author signature.
The Remains of the Day
By Kazuo Ishiguro
First edition, first impression (Faber & Faber, 1989). Signed by the author to the title page. The third novel by the 2017 winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature, for which he won the Booker Prize in 1989.
Gift inscription to front endpaper; very minor bump to spine head. Original dust jacket is price-clipped, but both spine and rear panels are still bright and unfaded; very light wear to top edge. An excellent, near fine example.
Lord of the Flies
By William Golding
First edition, second impression (Faber and Faber, 1954). Dust jacket design by Anthony Gross.
Original publisher's red cloth; minor rubbing to spine tips; very small date stamp to front endpaper; light toning to edges. Original and unclipped dust jacket has some abrasion and chipping to head and foot of spine panel; a little rubbing and minor chipping to corners; small closed tear to head of rear panel; a few small stains and discreet tape repairs to verso. An excellent copy overall.
A Fairly Honourable Defeat
By Iris Murdoch
First Edition, First Impression (Chatto and Windus, 1970). A little compression to spine foot and light soiling to top edge of text block. Original and unclipped dust jacket has some wear to extremities and a stain to verso covered by front flap.
