To Kill a Mockingbird
By Harper Lee
First UK edition, first impression (1960)
Octavo. Original maroon cloth, spine lettered in silver. With the original dust jacket illustrated by Fratini and priced 16s net on the front flap.
A very good copy in a fair dust jacket. The cloth shows some marking to the bottom corners but remains bright and square. Edges are toned with faint spotting, primarily to the fore-edge. Endpapers and paste-downs are lightly spotted, otherwise the contents are very nice and clean throughout.
The jacket is complete but worn, with chipping and short closed tears to the edges, loss to the lower portion of the front and rear panels and adjacent folds; the spine panel remains bright and unfaded.
A cornerstone of modern American literature, To Kill a Mockingbird explores racial injustice and moral growth in the Deep South through the eyes of Scout Finch, and remains a defining work of twentieth-century fiction.
