Children of Dune
By Frank Herbert
First UK edition, first impression: London: Victor Gollancz Ltd, 1976.
Octavo. Original beige cloth, spine lettered in gilt. With the original pictorial dust jacket, unclipped and priced £3.95 net.
A very good copy, the binding square and secure with bright gilt; some light to moderate toning to the edges and spotting to the top edge, with some pushing to the spine foot and a couple of knocks to the bottom corners of the boards, the contents otherwise clean throughout.
The dust jacket near fine, original and unclipped, showing the usual fading to the spine panel, a small area of rubbing to the upper panel, and a few faint spots to the verso.
Children of Dune completes Frank Herbert’s original Dune trilogy, widely considered one of the most ambitious and influential works of world-building in the history of science fiction. Set on the harsh desert planet Arrakis, the narrative continues the sweeping exploration of politics, ecology, religion, and human consciousness that defined its predecessors. Upon publication, it became the first science fiction novel to become a national hardcover bestseller, and it received a Hugo Award nomination for Best Novel in 1977. The enduring legacy of Herbert’s universe has left a profound impact on popular culture and the science fiction genre, inspiring iconic media adaptations including David Lynch’s 1984 film and Denis Villeneuve’s major cinematic adaptations.
