Original red cloth boards, lettered in black to the spine with the publisher's device; black sprayed page edges, red endpapers and pastedowns, and a matching ribbon marker. Dust jacket printed in black on a bright red ground, the panels crossed by a dense field of vertical rules, the title in bold, distressed lettering, with review quotations to the front panel from Lee Child, Andy Weir, Harlan Coben and Justin Cronin.

Fine: the cloth bright and unmarked, boards square and firm, spine sharp, sprayed edges even.

Dust jacket fine: the ground bright and unfaded, the black printing crisp, corners and folds sharp.

First published in the United States by Crown in July 2016, this Macmillan edition — issued the following month, on 11 August 2016, in association with Goldsboro Books — constitutes the UK first edition. The novel follows a physicist abducted into an alternate version of his own life, its premise developed from the many-worlds interpretation of quantum mechanics. It was adapted as a nine-episode series for Apple TV+, with Crouch as writer and showrunner and Joel Edgerton in the leading role, which premiered in May 2024.
