From a Buick 8 - Signed First Edition by Stephen King

From a Buick 8

By Stephen King

First edition, first impression: New York: Scribner, 2002. Signed by the author in blue ink to the title page.

Octavo. Original metallic blue cloth over grey boards; spine lettered in silver. With the original pictorial dust jacket designed by John Fulbrook III and illustrated by Mark Stutzman, priced at $28.00 to the upper front flap.

A near-fine copy. The binding square and firm, the metallic blue spine bright and unfaded, the silver titling sharp. Some spotting to the edges of the text block, primarily to the top; the contents otherwise clean and fresh.

The dust jacket fine, with only exceedingly faint spotting to the verso in places and minimal traces of wear to spine head; unclipped and presenting crisply, with colours vivid and no fading to the spine.

A handsome example of this late-period King novel, centred on a mysterious 1953 Buick Roadmaster held in storage by the Pennsylvania State Police. Published a few years after King’s near-fatal 1999 accident, the novel’s themes of dangerous driving and the randomness of death seem to directly reflect the trauma caused by the incident.
