Interview with the Vampire - Signed First Edition by Anne Rice

Interview with the Vampire

By Anne Rice

First UK edition, first impression: London: Macdonald and Jane’s Publishers Limited in association with Raven Books, 1976. Signed by the author to the front endpaper.

Octavo. Original black cloth, red endpapers and paste-downs; spine lettered in gilt. With the original black pictorial dust jacket, designed with a photographic image of a vampire holding a candelabrum; price £3.95 net (U.K. only) to the foot of the rear panel.

The book is in very good condition indeed. The cloth is clean and firm, with only slight softening to the spine ends. Internally, the text is  fresh, though there is some foxing to the edges and - far more faintly - to the first few leaves.

The dust jacket is bright and well preserved, showing only one small area of foxing to verso. The spine remains unfaded, and the panels retain their strong contrast and clarity. The price is intact and unclipped. Near fine.

The first UK edition of Anne Rice’s seminal debut novel, Interview with the Vampire, issued in the same year as the American Knopf first edition. This novel introduced the character of Louis de Pointe du Lac and laid the foundation for The Vampire Chronicles, one of the most influential series in modern gothic fiction. The novel achieved renewed international prominence with the acclaimed 1994 film adaptation. Signed examples of the first UK edition are notably uncommon.
