First UK edition, first impression with the author's cut signature affixed to title. Famously adapted to film by Alfred Hitchcock in 1951.

Re-bound in black leather with raised bands to spine, which is lettered and tooled in gilt. Title and decorative image to upper board in gilt. Marbled endpapers and paste-downs. Top edge gilt. A few small areas of minor staining to edges of opening couple of pages, else near fine or better.

The author's first novel, further enhanced by the unique and attractive binding and the presence of her signature.
