Original emerald green cloth, spine and upper board lettered in black, publisher's pegasus device to spine foot and lower board. Housed in a later dust jacket, priced 5/- to the spine panel.
 
Some of the usual off-setting to endpapers and toning to edges, with very faint spotting to the fore-edge. Cloth nice and clean, save for a little light marking to the lower board. Green top-stain still intact.
The jacket good, with edge-wear, mainly to the top, and a few chips and small tears, one of which with an associated tape repair to the verso. Some spotting to the verso. The advertisement list to the rear panel is headed by The Old Reliable, published April 1951, placing the jacket no earlier than that year.
 
The third full-length novel to feature Bertie Wooster and Jeeves, published on 7 October 1938 and issued in New York by Doubleday, Doran in the same year. It introduces Totleigh Towers and its proprietor Sir Watkyn Bassett, and with them Roderick Spode, leader of the Black Shorts - a burlesque of Oswald Mosley and the British Union of Fascists, appearing within a week of the Munich Agreement. The original wrapper to the first impression, priced 7/6, is markedly scarce.
