First editions, first impressions of all three volumes comprising Thomas Harris's Hannibal Lecter trilogy, each signed by the author.
 
RED DRAGON:
 
New York: G. P. Putnam's Sons, 1981. Quarter black cloth over grey boards, spine lettered in silver, grey endpapers and paste-downs. Signed by the author to the title page. Near fine, with a small knock to the bottom corner of the upper board and the slightest hint of rubbing to the spine foot, else fresh and clean both internally and externally. In the original unclipped dust jacket (price $13.95), fine, with a touch of faint yellowing to the lower panel.
 
THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS:
 
New York: St. Martin's Press, 1988. Quarter burgundy cloth over grey boards, spine lettered in silver. Signed by the author to the half-title. Near fine, with a little very faint spotting to the edges. In the original unclipped dust jacket (price $18.95), fine, with a couple of trivial and isolated instances of rubbing to the edges, otherwise fine and sharp.
 
HANNIBAL:
 
 New York: Delacorte Press, 1999. Quarter black cloth over red boards, spine lettered in gilt. Signed by the author to the title page. Fine, with some pushing to the spine foot. In the original unclipped dust jacket (price $27.95/$39.95 Can), very good indeed, with a few small and faint stains to the verso of the spine head, a little colour transfer from the book to the verso of the lower panel, and light wear to the spine ends.
 
Harris's trilogy introduced Dr Hannibal Lecter, one of the most enduringly influential villains in modern popular fiction. Red Dragon was the basis for two film adaptations, Michael Mann's Manhunter (1986) and Brett Ratner's Red Dragon (2002). The Silence of the Lambs won the Bram Stoker Award and the Anthony Award for Best Novel, and its 1991 film adaptation swept the "Big Five" Academy Awards — Best Picture, Director, Actor, Actress, and Adapted Screenplay — becoming only the third film in Academy history to do so, and the first horror film to win Best Picture. Hannibal was adapted for the screen in 2001.
