Very good or better, the binding tight and firm and the contents clean throughout, with some toning to the edges and spotting to the top edge. A few minor instances of rubbing to the edges and to the lower corner of the rear cover.

The second of the Hitch-Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy books, and, like the first, issued by Pan as a paperback original: this edition precedes the Arthur Barker hardback published later the same year. The copyright page records the text as freely adapted from episodes of the BBC radio series broadcast between April 1978 and January 1980, drawing on the close of the first radio series, the Christmas episode and the second series rather than on any single run. A BBC television adaptation of the first book followed in 1981.
