The Return of the King
The Return of the King
By J. R. R. Tolkien
Second impression, published in November 1955, one month after the first edition; 4,000 copies of the second impression were issued. The concluding volume of The Lord of the Rings, Tolkien's modern epic of Middle-earth.
Octavo. Original red cloth, spine lettered and decorated in gilt, top edge red. With the original dust jacket printed in red and black, priced 21 s net on the front flap.
A very good copy: cloth bright, slightest hint of bowing to boards, some spotting to endpapers and, more faintly, to edges. The jacket toned at spine, as is common, and a little rubbed at the ends with a shallow chip to spine foot, otherwise clean and complete. Folding map tipped in at the rear, as issued.
