Rowling: 'To Alastair - I remember the office too! best wishes J. K. Rowling'. Publisher's original pictorial boards. In fine condition in a near fine or better dust jacket with just a touch of wear to bottom edge. An excellent copy. Provenance: The previous owner worked in the back office of Nicolsons Cafe in Edinburgh and would often see J. K. Rowling getting a coffee in the mornings. Some years later he saw Rowling dining at Orbis in Edinburgh and asked for her autograph. Rowling is known to have written regularly in Nicolsons Cafe, hence the reference to the office in the inscription.

A little pushing to spine tips with a touch of light marking here and there to boards. Small area of extremely faint spotting to front endpaper and to fore-edge of final few pages, otherwise contents beautiful and clean throughout with no writing or inscriptions. Mild rubbing to the extremities of the original and unclipped dust jacket with a few closed tears to the front panel and a small nick to foot of rear panel; mild soiling to rear panel, nice, clean and bright otherwise. A very good example indeed of the second book in 'The Chronicles of Narnia' series.

Publisher's original dark blue cloth, all edges gilt. Gilt to spine and upper board is beautifully preserved. Slight spine slant and a little light marking to boards with some rubbing to spine tips and corners; very small and inconspicuous sticker to top corner of front paste-down; some cracking to binding, as is common, but all pages remain in place and firmly bound; light and occasional spotting, primarily to opening pages; free from writing and inscriptions. THE SECOND JUNGLE BOOK: First edition, first impression (Macmillan & Co, 1895). Publisher's original dark blue cloth, all edges gilt. Gilt to spine and upper board nicely preserved with a touch of darkening to spine; some rubbing to spine tips and corners; very small and inconspicuous sticker to top corner of front paste-down; upper board a little tender, as is common, but binding remains nice and firm; some foxing to front endpaper verso with light and occasional spotting here and there throughout. A very good set.

    The Starlight Barking By Dodie Smith First edition, first impression (Heinemann, 1967). Illustrated by Janet and Anne Grahame-Johnstone. Signed, inscribed and dated by the author in the year of publication on the front blank: 'To Cicely Courtneidge, from Dodie Smith "Dear Octopus", Theatre Royal, Haymarket, 1967'. The inscription refers to Smith's play 'Dear Octopus', which was revived in 1967 for the fiftieth wedding anniversary of the comedy actors Dame Cicely Courtneidge and Jack Hubert. Dodie Smith's married name, 'Mrs Beesley', Dodie Smith's married name is also written in ink in another hand to the front flap of the dust jacket. Additionally a postcard from the author is loosely inserted: 'Dearest Cis, Here is "The Starlight Barking" as a tiny first night present. It's also intended as a get well present to your dear poodle - I trust you'll be able to use Bill's line and say "The dog liked it". Bless you and thank you for your lovable, funny and altogether admirable performance as "Dora". Much love as ever, Dodie". 8vo, publisher's original blue cloth with gilt lettering to spine and pictorial decorative endpapers. fine with just a little pushing to spine ends in a near fine, price-clipped dust jacket with slight edge-wear in places and a couple of spots to upper panel. A near fine example of the sequel to 'The Hundred and One Dalmatians'.
