    Shogun

    , , , ,
Shogun By James Clavell First UK edition, first impression, published by Hodder & Stoughton in 1975. Signed and location dated by the author to half-title: 'Sept 30th Glasgow' with '和' (Wa) written in Japanese kanji, which translates into English as 'harmony'. The first book chronologically in the Asian Saga, though the third to be published. Adapted into two popular TV miniseries in 1980 and 2024. Original black cloth with lettering to spine in gilt. One barely discernible knock to bottom corner of upper board, else fine and seemingly unread with pristine and unmarked white pages. The original and unclipped dust jacket has two unobtrusive indentations to upper panel hinge and a couple of very faint blemishes to spine panel with mild traces of wear to spine hear and a soft, inconspicuous crease to top corner of upper flat, else near fine. A modern classic of historical fiction, seldom encountered signed and in such superior condition.

    The Leopard

    , ,
The Leopard By Giuseppe di Lampedusa First edition, first impression. Originally published in Italian in 1958. Original green cloth with lettering to spine in gilt. Previous owner name to top corner of front endpaper and the letter 'A' written quite inconspicuously to top corner of front paste-down, which also shows evidence of bookplate removal. Area of staining to bottom corner of text block, otherwise very good. The original and unclipped dust jacket, featuring artwork by Hans Tisdall, has some staining to bottom edge, coinciding with that of the text block, and to foot of spine panel verso, else an extremely good, near fine example.
