One Hundred Years of Solitude
By Gabriel García Márquez

First UK edition, first impression (Jonathan Cape, 1970). Translated from the Spanish by Gregory Rabassa.

Original turquoise cloth, top edge magenta, in Toni Evora’s striking dust jacket, priced £1.75 net / 35s.

A bright, clean copy with minimal wear; just slight toning to the text-block and a couple of minor knocks to top edge; the jacket with a closed tear to bottom edge of upper panel and a small area of abrasion with a faint associated mark to reverse of upper flap, but otherwise extremely well-preserved.

First published in Argentina in 1967, One Hundred Years of Solitude transformed world literature. Rabassa’s English translation – praised by García Márquez as superior to his own prose – introduced the magic of Macondo to a global audience and helped earn its author the 1982 Nobel Prize in Literature. Recently adapted into a Netflix TV series.
