    Foundation

    , , ,
Foundation By Isaac Asimov First UK edition, first impression (Weidenfeld & Nicolson, 1953). Published two years after the U.S. Gnome Press first edition (1951), this marks the first British appearance of the opening volume in Asimov's Foundation trilogy. The basis for the ongoing Apple TV adaptation. Octavo. Original black cloth, spine lettered in silver. With the pictorial dust jacket printed in lilac, white, and green, priced 10s. 6d. net on the front flap. A Very Good or better copy in a Very Good or better jacket. The cloth clean and square; some toning and spotting to edges, endpapers faintly toned with a small retailer sticker to bottom corner of front paste-down. The dust jacket shows moderate wear to spine ends and corners with a few chips and a couple of short tears; some of the frequently-encountered light soiling to lower panel. The jacket is unclipped and complete. A central work of modern science fiction, introducing the concept of "psychohistory" and Hari Seldon's mathematical vision of empire and decline. The Foundation sequence profoundly influenced the genre's later literary and cinematic landscape, shaping works from Dune to Star Wars and beyond.
