Limited edition. Octavo. Finely bound in full tan morocco, front board blocked in black with a silhouette of a foal, gilt titles and horse-head motifs to the spine in compartments between raised bands, all edges gilt, marbled endpapers and paste-downs. Housed in a marbled paper-covered slipcase with brown cloth edges.

A fine copy, bright and fresh throughout. The slipcase remains clean and sturdy, with just one tiny instance of rubbing to spine foot.

One of only 100 numbered facsimile copies (the present copy unnumbered) issued to commemorate the centenary of the original 1877 publication. Signed by Lucinda Prior-Palmer, the celebrated British equestrian and 1973 European Champion eventer, on the limitation page.

A beautifully produced edition of Sewell’s moral tale of kindness and empathy towards animals.
